2. Pusat hidupan liar Semenggoh

4. Kuching WaterFront

Kuching Waterfront, which lines the south bank of Sarawak River, is THE place to sample the city’s cosmopolitan vibes. During the daytime, it offers scenic views of the Astana, Fort Margherita and the Malay kampungs across the river; but night-time is when it really comes alive! It seems like half of the city is out meeting friends, watching a show, or just shooting the breeze. For something different, why not try jetty-hopping along the river on the local Penambang boats, and savour the different sights, sounds (and delicacies!) between the two riverbanks.

A result of a major restoration and land reclamation project, Kuching Waterfront today is the most popular meeting place in the city. Drab warehouses have been replaced with an almost 900m long esplanade, beautifully landscaped and dotted with wooden benches, food stalls, restaurants and entertainment facilities. A number of older buildings have been preserved and incorporated into the design, including the Chinese History Museum, the Sarawak Steamship Building, an open-air theatre and the Square Tower. Modern additions to the Waterfront include a restored Chinese pavilion, colourful musical fountains, and a number of modern sculptures.

5. Taman Negara Gunung Gading

Gunung Gading National Park has a very special star attraction - the Rafflesia, the world’s largest flower - and the park is one of the best places in Asia to view the Rafflesia’s spectacular blooms. Gunung Gading sprawls across four jungle-clad mountain peaks, and its dense primary rainforest is criss-crossed by crystal clear streams and waterfalls.

Gunung Gading was gazetted as a park in 1st August 1983 primarily to provide a conservation zone for the protection of the Rafflesia. It was opened to the public in 1994 and visitors can now view one of the most spectacular plants found on the planet. The park is easily accessible from Kuching on a day trip. Those wishing to stay longer can enjoy Gunung Gading’s other attractions - particularly its rainforest scenery, waterfalls and jungle trails. Some of these trails lead to the peaks of the mountains that make up the park and offer challenging jungle treks.

6. Taman Negara Bako

Taman Negara since 1957, Bako offers a perfect introduction to Sarawak's forests and wildlife. This garden covers the northern tip of Muara Tebas peninsula, 27 kms plains. Despite its relatively small size, Bako contains a variety of plants - swampy forests, herbs such as shrubs, mangroves, dipterocarpa forests, fine cliff plants and much more. In fact, in Bako it is possible to see almost any kind of plants found in Borneo. Bako also contains various types of wildlife and beaches filled with small coves, bays and beaches. The park has some well-marked roads that offer charming streets from pleasant short walks to a serious full day hike. Unlike some national parks, visitors to Bako are almost guaranteed to see wildlife. Monkey monkeys are long crowns and silver leaf monkeys have ever existed, wild pigs are often found annoying around National Parks, squirrels and monkey monkeys. There is an opportunity to see rare and uncommon proboscis monkeys on routes such as Telok Paku and Telok Delima, especially if you are late at night. You are more likely to see wildlife if you follow the secret trail and keep listening.

Bako also has about 275 rare proboscis monkeys, found only in Borneo. Men are odd creatures, with big nose and large pot belly, weighing more than 20 kg. Both men and women are covered with red-brown feathers with gray and white tails. They are mostly arboreal (tree dwellings), moving around the forest or mangroves in small groups and feeding on young leaves, shoots, fruits and sour seeds. While it takes a little patience, meeting with the proboscis group might be your trip to Bako. The best time is in the morning or at dusk. Telok Delima and Telok Paku are the best way to see the proboscis. Mangrove in Telok Assam is also a good place to see proboscis monkeys.

Bako's plant life is beautiful and easily accessible. All routes have various plants, ranging from 80 meters of dipterokar to mangrove forest. Growing carnivorous plants are on the Latitude route.

Bako also has a good white sand beach that provides a perfect retreat among forest trek. Telok Pandan Kecil is perhaps the best beach of Bako. After an hour or so, the Telok Pandan Kecil route goes to the rocky plateau. The beautiful secluded bay view, and the thought of swimming in cold waters, has a magical effect on tired calf muscles. The following 20 minute descendants suddenly became more fun. All beaches are bordered by limestone cliffs and sandstone, and the action of the sea has left some extraordinary rock formations, such as the famous Pile Sea.

If you stroll around the sun at Telok Assam beach near the HQ park, you will see hundreds of shallow hover around their nest on the rocks at the end of the beach. Do not leave the beach after sunset behind Mount Santubong. Wait 20 minutes longer because the sky's color often changes dramatically, giving it a colorful background to the mountain.

The joy of museums is their capacity to be places where people explore something of themselves, although this does not necessarily come about the way the museum itself may intend."
- Sheldon Annis -

Rumah Panjang

Jenis rumah panjang masyarakat peribumi Malaysia Timur biasanya mempunyai bilik-bilik tambahan.

Rumah panjang Sarawak[sunting | sunting sumber]
